After three hundred sheep driven off the SA Company’s run, Corporal McCulloch assisted by men from the station tracked the sheep to Cape Northumberland, where Aboriginal people there had built four brush yards to pen the sheep. There were about 100 Aboriginal people were present concealing themselves in the thick scrub. Spears were thrown and thrust at the Europeans as they attempted to arrest people. Shots were fired and it is reported that four Aboriginal people were killed.

On 22 April 1848, Corporal Lang from the Mount Remarkable Police Station and Captain Watts’s overseer from White’s Creek arrived in Burra with four Aboriginal men suspected of having stolen over one hundred sheep. The Resident Magistrate thought the evidence was inconclusive, but was informed by the Attorney General that the men should be tried at the Supreme Court Criminal Sittings in June. The bill against Toby, Tommy, Frying Pan and Rosy Wine was dismissed due to unsatisfactory evidence.

Kudnutya was found guilty of stealing eighty sheep belonging to Messrs Burnett and Fotheringham, and under the charge of Robert Lee (‘Bob’), in the vicinity of Beautiful Valley. At the Police Commissioner’s Court on 28 June, Kudnutya, through Protector Moorhouse, said he partook of mutton but did not take the sheep. He was sentenced to two months with hard labour.

Seven Aboriginal men; Malia (alias Charley), Pedia (alias Jacky), Malia (alias Jemmy), Pedia (alias William), Coonia (alias Kangaroo), Coonia (alias Tunbo), and Wariol (alias Tommy), were charged at Clare Court with stealing sheep from Ferguson and Younghusband’s station, near Crystal Brook.

Meendinya and Meenbinya arrested by Police Trooper Morris on suspicion of having murdered a hutkeeper named Sheppard at Fowler’ Bay in 1859. While transporting the prisoners to Cooeyanna Police station Meendinya, while resisting the Trooper, was shot and killed.

Shepherds reportedly attacked by two Aboriginal men, beaten with waddies and boomerangs and had his rations stolen.

John Walter Jerrold, a shepherd working for John Jacob, near Mount Fitton, went missing, and another shepherd, Harris had sheep stolen. It was later revealed that Jerrold had been killed.

In attempting to arrest Paralana Jacky and Paralana Tommy for the murder of John Walter Jerrold, the latter is shot and later dies.

Aboriginal man, Peter Franklin (aka Port Lincoln Peter) allegedly killed by Warrakimbo Reuben and three others near Beltana. Tried for the murder in the Supreme Court, Warrakimbo Reuben was found not guilty.
