James McKenzie, travelling with ‘King John and Lubra’, claims they assaulted and robbed him. They were apprehended by Police Constable McLeod and Guy and transported to Guichen Bay in a dray because of the ‘severe wounds received in the affray’.

After three hundred sheep driven off the SA Company’s run, Corporal McCulloch assisted by men from the station tracked the sheep to Cape Northumberland, where Aboriginal people there had built four brush yards to pen the sheep. There were about 100 Aboriginal people were present concealing themselves in the thick scrub. Spears were thrown and thrust at the Europeans as they attempted to arrest people. Shots were fired and it is reported that four Aboriginal people were killed.
