Sometime between 30 December 1844 and 5 January 1845, Mr Bishop’s hut at Emu Bottom was broken into. Flour, suet and a spoon were taken and Cowupmanna and another Aboriginal man were suspected. Cowupmanna later acknowledged he was responsible and received seven ‘stripes’ – one from the Police Constable and six from his fellow Countrymen.
