    Military, Border Police, and constables proceeded at night to the Aboriginal people's festivities and attempted their capture after reports of a corrobborra before a battle.

    As police began arresting people at a corroboree, during the 'Lettsom Raid', Winberry tried to defend them, striking at Mr. Vignolles, and was shot dead by a sergeant.
