Winberry
23 Dec 1848“Mr. Belcher the clerk of the court informed the magistrates that upon the road leading to Mr. Simpson's residence, a number of blacks had latterly encamped and that the consequence was any parties more particularly females in proceeding along the road, were liable to be molested and insulted by them, he had no doubt that the outrage of which Mrs. Simpson complained, had been committed by Winberry whilst in a state of intoxication, as the blacks were at that season enabled to obtain no inconsiderable amount of " white money " from the sale of young parrots, and such was their infatuation for ardent spirits that they expended all they got in getting drunk”

24 Dec 1848“Winberry flourished his " waddie" at the Coachman, and compelled him to stop the horses, upon which the savage attempted to get into the carriage, but although violent in his language and conduct, he offered no personal insult to the lady, his wish being merely to have a drive in the carriage to his ' mia mia,' on the river side.”
