In recovering sheep taken during the confrontation between Charles Goldsmith, Isaac Bridges and a group of Kukata men, Mortlock’s overseer (Smith) found several sheep had been speared and others taken, and the hut ransacked. In taking possession of the sheep, spears were thrown at Smith who fired in return.
